Surro Snacking! Lisa’s Protein-Packed Oatmeal

Protein-packed Nausea-Neutralizing Apple Oatmeal

It’s time to feature some Surro Snacking! Today, CFC surrogate Lisa shared a great hint with us for beating morning sickness in the first trimester (or beyond, if you are unlucky…) “what gets me through the morning sickness with a little protein is oatmeal (plain oats) cooked with apples and milk with an egg mixed in (like you would for a custard). The milk and apples make it sweet but you can top with a little maple syrup if you want!”

Who knew!? Give it a try and let us know if it works for you! Thanks, Lisa. 🙂

Ingredients
1/2 cup rolled or steel cut oats
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1 egg
1 chopped apple
Maple syrup to taste

Step 1
Measure 1/2 cup of oats and 1 cup of water and pour them into a pot.

Step 2
Add the chopped apple

Step 3
Crack the egg into the pot and stir well to mix the egg, oatmeal and water.

Step 4
Bring the oatmeal to a boil over high heat. Reduce the temperature to simmer.

Step 5
Stir the oatmeal frequently while cooking. Quick oats can take 2 to 3 minutes to cook. Old-fashioned oats can take twice as long.

Step 6
Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Add maple syrup to taste and serve warm.
