Employee Spotlight – Surrogacy journey coordinator Rachael

What is your role at Creative Family Connections?

I am a surrogacy journey coordinator supporting our amazing gestational carriers and intended parents through their journey. I am also one of the newest members to the CFC team and it’s been so positive working with this group of dedicated folks.

How did you first learn about Creative Family Connections?

Through Jen, CFC’s brilliant Sr. Associate Attorney & Director, Legal Services and Gestational Surrogacy. Jen has been part of the CFC family for many years and well, it seems like I have known her the same amount of time.

If you could pick one theme for Creative Family Connections to turn into a book about the company, what would it be?

Love conquers all!

What advice do you have for prospective Creative Family Connections candidates?

Be patient with your body and the journey. When conceiving the old fashioned way, we can take a lot about the biological and reproductive process for granted. However, when getting pregnant through IVF, your body and hormones are monitored closely, all for the purpose to achieve a successful pregnancy. This process can seem a bit daunting when unexpected issues pop up. Every journey is different and if yours does have a bump in the road, know that you have a full team to support you every step of the way!

What are 3 words to describe Creative Family Connections?

Let’s do this! We’re a bunch of go getters that are ready to jump in wherever and whenever needed.

What do you find the most challenging at Creative Family Connections?

Occasionally there can be setbacks during surrogacy journeys and it is heartbreaking for everyone when it happens. It can be challenging to get back up again. Knowing the end leads to fulfilling a dream to build a family, helps shake off the dust.

What do you like most about Creative Family Connections?

The team of course! The adorable baby photos are also a big plus.

What drew you to Creative Family Connections originally?

It was inspiring to hear how a small group of devoted professionals work so positively to help build families. The medical aspect is also interesting as we learn more about fertility and the human reproductive system.

What is the favorite part about working for Creative Family Connections?

I love meeting new intended parents and surrogates. To start the journey and hear everyone’s hopes and dreams and then diving in to making it happen!

What is your proudest moment at Creative Family Connections?

As I’m new to the team, I’m looking forward to meeting that first bundle of joy in one of my cases.

Before working at Creative Family Connections what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I worked as a Night Camp Instructor at a conservation-focused Zoo through college. Basically, my team and I would run around the Zoo at night with campers, checking out animals and teaching them about ecology and biology. I would present animals from raptors to 10-foot snakes so the kids could see close up just how amazing their natural world is. These programs are available at most Zoos and I recommend them to current and future parents for their kiddos!

Tell us a little bit about your life outside of Creative Family Connections.

My pup and I recently moved back to the DC area to be closer to family. Like many, I love to travel and do so frequently. I’m gearing up for a trip to China later this summer. In my off time, I catch up with friends over dinner, meet others for outdoor adventures, and thanks to Suz, CFC’s amazing legal associate, I’ve started running (like for fun).
