The US Surrogacy Map
Surrogacy laws are different from state to state across the US. We have compiled the leading state-by-state surrogacy law map that features laws as actually practiced in all 50 states.
Becoming a gestational surrogate offers another individual or couple the chance to have a baby they have dreamed about for so long. While a surrogate journey can have its challenges, it can be one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable. You can change someone else’s life forever by carrying their biological child.
At Creative Family Connections, we believe everyone can build a family. We connect intended parents with gestational surrogates to create families who might otherwise not have the chance to have their own child. In addition to being a surrogacy agency, we are led by a highly educated surrogacy law team, which enables us to handle many of the legal matters associated with the surrogate process. A CFC attorney represents the intended parents during the contract phase of the journey in most journeys and the surrogate has her own representation as well via an assisted reproductive technology (ART) attorney. Looking for a reputable ART attorney? We have surrogacy attorneys listed by each state on our US Surrogacy Law Map™.
If you live in Maryland and are considering becoming a surrogate, you probably have lots of questions, such as how much you get paid for being a surrogate and what the process looks like. It varies from state to state, so being aware of the specifics in Maryland can help.
Gestational surrogacy is open to a small group of people who meet all the qualifications. Before you begin filling out an application, gather all the documentation you need to prove what the government demands of applicants. The requirements for becoming a surrogate in Maryland include:
You must also be a legal resident, citizen, or legal immigrant to the United States. If you are a legal resident or legal immigrant, you must have documentation valid for at least two years. Finally, you can’t participate in government aid programs such as Section 8, public housing, Medicaid, welfare, or cash assistance.
Whether you live in Baltimore, on the Eastern Shore, or in Frederick, we can help you become a gestational surrogate. Our team has worked with women across the country, and as we are led by a great team of women attorneys, we have a thorough understanding of the requirements for surrogates in each state. How much does a surrogate make? Surrogate compensation can vary in Maryland depending on the agency or agreements among a surrogate and her intended parents for an “independent” journey. The average gestational carrier makes $50,000-$60,000, including a base fee of $30,000-$35,000. Our base fee for surrogates in Maryland is, in fact, higher than $30,000. Read more about our base pays depending on your state of residence.
There are additional stipends that are separate from your base pay. You will receive a monthly stipend once you become pregnant. You can also earn compensation and benefits before becoming pregnant, and you receive compensation for hitting different milestones in your gestational journey. One example is the maternity clothing allowance.
Of course, you also enjoy the incredible feeling of helping someone achieve their dream. Most women don’t become surrogates just because of the payout. They want to help someone build a new family, and they know only a handful of women can assist with this incredible journey. Giving the joy you experience every day with your children to someone else can feel amazing.
